In 1973, because of a shortage of ordinary ministers of the Eucharist (priests and deacons), Pope Paul VI institued the practice of extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. We assist at Mass and also take the Eucharist to those who are not well enough to attend Mass. To serve as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, one must be a practicing Catholic who has demonstrated good Christian life, faith, and morals, has received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, demonstrates a deep reverence and devotion to the Holy Eucharist, is a registerd member of our parish, and if married, the marriage must be a valid Catholic marriage.
